Welcome to Issue 3 of the new look RAGS e-bulletin. In this edition, we roll out our colour coded digest of interesting news items over the last fortnight. SEPA has released its annual report for 2004-2005 detailing information on their performance and finances. Highlights of the year include progress on the national waste plan; waste data digest report and fly-tipping campaign. |

The Environment Agency has conducted a study to compare the effectiveness of packaging waste management systems in a number of EU Countries. The study analyses packaging waste systems in Austria, Denmark, Ireland, Italy and the UK's and then conducts a comparative analysis of the system. Click here for more information |

October 14th 2005 is brought to you courtesy of Recovery traded from £3.00 down to £1.75 in excellent volume, down £1.25 from last week's close. - Glass traded from £14.50 down to £14.25 in good volume, down 25p from last week's close. - Steel traded between £180.00 and £185.00 in fair volume, closing at £182.50, up £2.50 from last week's close. - Paper traded at £13.00 in modest volume, down 25p from last week's close. - Wood traded from £13.50 up to £13.75 in modest volume, up 25p from last week's close. - Plastic traded at £44.50 in light volume, unchanged from last week's close. - No trading in Aluminium this week.

| Waste Aware Scotland Mews - Best Waste Minimisation Initiative | |

Perth & Kinross Council's efforts to encourage businesses to minimise the amount of waste they create have been rewarded with a national award, presented on Wednesday 5 October 2005 in Glasgow. The Perth and Kinross Waste Minimisation for Business initiative was judged to have made an outstanding contribution to the waste industry in Scotland and has carried off the Best Waste Minimisation Initiative crown at the Eventful Scotland Awards. |

The UK's biggest ever study into composting practices has reported its findings. The report funded through the landfill tax credit scheme (Sita Trust) looks a series of seven projects, analysing different aspects of the composting chain including: methods of collecting organic waste, setting up different types of composting facilities and investigating potential end-markets for compost. |
